Exploring new paths together
Whenever it’s about bringing more flexibility and cost-efficiency into the manufacturing of small series or single parts, that’s when our ambition is sparked. And to make sure we find the right approach from the very beginning, we prefer to plan projects together with our customers—directly on their shop floor. From many years of hands-on experience, we’ve learned a key lesson: no two companies are alike. That’s why we offer efficient standard solutions, but we only define what’s truly needed once we understand the real-world conditions on site—and how we can make workflows easier.
In the coming months, we’ll be showcasing some examples of these partnerships right here. We’re especially grateful to our customers who allowed us a behind-the-scenes look at their operations. This gives us the opportunity to clearly demonstrate why the best solutions are always the result of collaboration.
Exploring New Paths Together
By Frank Schwabedissen, HURCO Sales
“We’re not afraid when things get complicated.
And HURCO’s right there with us.”
— Martin Günther, Managing Director of Günter Sievers Maschinenbau GmbH
Let’s start with Günter Sievers Maschinenbau GmbH, based near Hanover, Germany. The company is an expert in timing belt pulleys, employing around 100 skilled workers and producing roughly half a million custom timing pulleys per year. All commonly used timing and V-belt pulleys, as well as gears in batch size 1 or full series, are produced at their facility. Quality is non-negotiable—it’s a given at Günter Sievers.
We first met a few years ago at the Hannover Messe. That trade fair is always a huge event, but I still clearly remember how Managing Director Martin Günther walked up to our booth in 2019 with a firm goal: he wasn’t planning to leave until he had purchased a HURCO machine.
Such determined buyers don’t come around every day!
He was looking for a provider that offered both turning and milling machines—and was particularly drawn to our intuitive control system, especially since HURCO had adapted it for its turning machines as well. He also appreciated the wide range of machine options and our strong price-performance ratio.
“In 99.9% of cases, we don’t turn down an order. We’re not intimidated by complexity.
And that’s where HURCO really shines.”
— Martin Günther, Managing Director of Günter Sievers Maschinenbau GmbH
But Martin Günther wasn’t just looking for a new machining center—he was looking for a long-term partner to help evolve his entire production setup. We’re proud to say that initial purchase at the trade show was just the beginning. Today, Günter Sievers’ shop floor houses eight HURCO turning machines, three 3-axis machining centers, and a ProFeeder loading system.
His expectations for identical control systems across both turning and milling machines have been fully met—making internal processes much smoother, especially when it comes to workforce scheduling. The standardized interface allows fast machine switching, so employees can easily cover for one another during absences, increasing flexibility in production.
“This setup allows us to run unmanned shifts into the night—especially for large series of timing pulleys.”
— Henry Jonschker, Production Manager, Günter Sievers Maschinenbau GmbH
Watch our video for a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration between Günter Sievers Maschinenbau GmbH and HURCO. In the video, Production Manager Henry Jonschker explains how our CNC machines have improved his workflows—and why he relies on HURCO.
To take that flexibility even further, we are currently supporting Günter Sievers with the automation of machine loading. On the one hand, this relieves employees from repetitive tasks during daytime shifts, freeing them to focus on work that matches their skills. On the other hand, the goal is to produce large series unmanned through the night—enabled by an additional ProFeeder Table and more collaborative robots (cobots).
However, the number of parts to be machined at night can vary widely—from 20 to 1,000 units. That’s why it’s essential for the loading system to be easily transferable between machines. The ProFeeder Table makes this quick and easy.
“We need a unified machine park that runs smoothly,” says the team at Günter Sievers.
And that’s exactly why they rely on us—for everything that goes with it.
We’re incredibly grateful for that trust!
